The Rhode Island Quality Institute and Wal-Mart recently donated a $25,000 grant to the Chad Brown Health Center in Providence to support the adoption of a certified electronic health record (EHR) system for the center, the only community health center in Rhode Island located in a public housing complex.
The new version of Chad Brown’s electronic health record, certified by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT), is meant to help realize financial, scheduling and productivity improvements through practice-management features. The EHR will also report on quality indicators, e-prescribing and monitor potential adverse drug reactions.
“This grant from Wal-Mart will help improve the quality of health care for thousands of economically disadvantaged residents and is helping us advance the efforts of RIQI to achieve widespread adoption of electronic health records throughout the state,” said Laura Adams, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Quality Institute, a statewide collaboration of hospitals, physicians, nurses, health insurers, consumers, business, government and academia.
“This grant recognizes the power of technology in advancing the quality of life and health outcomes for our patients,” said Gloria Rose, executive director of the Chad Brown Health Center.
Wal-Mart opened its first store location in Providence in 2006, less than a mile from Chad Brown Health Center.
