The Raynham Veterans Memorial Committee is hoping a $5,000 check from Wal-Mart will prompt other businesses to ante up.

“Our veterans have been somewhat marginalized,” Selectmen Chairman Donald McKinnon said, noting the sluggish fundraising drive to build a $75,000 monument to all Raynham service men and women at Borden Colony.

Selectman Marie Smith said donations were trickling in from the purchase of $50 memorial bricks.

“Maybe this will generate some activity,” she said.

Bert Cabral, manager of the Wal-Mart on Paramount Drive, challenged other businesses to match his donation.
