July 25 was Teacher Appreciation Day at Wal-Mart in Plaistow, N.H. Many local teachers attended the event and were eligible for the four $25 gift cards that were raffled off. Teachers also received classroom supplies. The big winner was Tilton Elementary School, which received a $500 gift card donated by Frito-Lay.

This month, Wal-Mart will launch its Teacher of the Year program. Area students can drop by any Wal-Mart and fill out a teacher recognition entry — which they can drop in a box in the front of the store. Each Wal-Mart and Sam's Club will donate grants for $1,000 and a $100 gift card to purchase classroom supplies. Teacher nominations will be accepted Aug. 8 to 17.
