Jobs for Maine’s Graduates, Inc. (JMG) has received a grant of $30,000 from the Wal-Mart Foundation. The JMG grant is part of $500,000 that the Wal-Mart Foundation awarded to Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) affiliates in a total of seventeen states to support youth success.
JMG and JAG deliver services with demonstrated results to youth with multiple barriers to success, enabling students to graduate from high school, continue to higher education or enter the job market. Through JMG and JAG, students receive career readiness education, school- to-work transition services, academic remediation, job-seeking and job-retention skills.
Craig Larrabee, President and CEO of JMG, says, “This funding will help us to create pathways to success for our students, specifically by cultivating deeper relationships between our youth and the business community, and better market the students for employment.”
“Now more than ever, we are looking for ways to provide opportunities for those who are out of work and facing tough times,” said Margaret McKenna, President of the Wal-Mart Foundation. “Our recent grant to Jobs for America’s Graduates and its affiliates will help deserving people across the country get through these tough economic times and help assure that workers have the skills necessary for jobs that are available today.”
Job training has long been a major focus area for Wal-Mart, and the retailer’s philanthropic arm is committed to funding programs that will help the unemployed, youth and mature workers obtain the skills and training they need to be active participants in the American workforce.
Craig Larrabee says, “In today’s economy, jobs are hard to come by. The youth job market is nearly dried up in many places. Wal-Mart’s commitment to supporting career readiness is the boost that most of our students need.”
