A program that helps young adults in low-income communities to find work while pursuing high school diplomas received a $475,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation on Tuesday, taking some of the string out of a recent state budget cut. The grant will boost nine YouthBuild programs in Massachusetts and is part of a $5 million grant from the foundation to alternative school efforts on behalf of YouthBuild affiliates nationwide. Gov. Patrick last week cut state funding for YouthBuild by $826,773, a 30 percent reduction. The foundation said its grants will support YouthBuild programs in Boston, Cambridge, Lawrence, Quincy, Brockton, New Bedford, Fall River, Worcester and Springfield.
