PLYMOUTH - The Wal-Mart Good Works Community Grant Program focuses on local community needs when deciding how to distribute its community funding.

The management at the Wal-Mart in Colony Place decided to support America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration with $2,000 in sponsorship money.

Last week Wal-Mart Good Works Coordinator Shelly Cruckshank presented a check to America’s Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration Executive Director Olly deMacedo.

Cruckshank said she and store Manager Saleem Shaihk are pleased to be able to give back to the community and are sure celebration organizers will put the money to good use. Nationwide, Wal-Mart awarded more than 80,000 community grants totaling $61 million last year.

“It worked out perfectly that we were able to donate some additional funds they need,” she said.

DeMacedo said Thanksgiving celebration committee members appreciate Wal-Mart’s help as they work to finish paying off all the bills generated during the administration of such a major event.

“We’re appreciative because all the corporate help is what makes it happen,” he said.
