MANCHESTER — The New Hampshire Food Bank begins a new Back Pack Program next month to provide food to poor school children.
Each week, children enrolled in the program will get a back pack containing nutritious, kid-friendly food to supplement their weekend meals. The children also will get educational materials and activities for the family. The food will be an assortment of proteins, fruits, vegetables and carbohydrates.
The Food Bank estimates the program will reach about 1,100 children and is being made possible by an $80,000 donation from the Wal-Mart Foundation's new State Giving Program.
